The Bundeswehr’s security department has issued a warning to soldiers about possible attacks in public settings. In a current circular, the department stresses the need for a “sensitive awareness” amid the tense domestic and international security situation.
Soldiers who are in uniform while using public transportation should remain especially vigilant. According to the circular, there is a risk that parts of the population critical of the armed forces may pose a potential danger through verbal or even physical aggression. Soldiers are advised to keep a close eye on train journeys in uniform and to report any form of aggression, whether verbal or physical, immediately.
The warning also covers all soldiers and civilian staff, noting that due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, there is currently a high abstract threat to Israeli and American citizens and institutions in Germany. Any indications of activities that could jeopardize security must be reported without delay-this applies to Israeli or U.S. facilities as well as to Bundeswehr barracks.
