BYD Targets 50,000 German Cars by 2026, Aiming to Double Sales and Capture 5% Plug‑In Hybrid Market

The German subsidiary of the Chinese automaker BYD aims to more than double its number of new registrations in 2026.
In a recent interview with Handelsblatt’s Friday issue, BYD‑Germany chief Lars Bialkowski stated the company’s goal of reaching 50,000 vehicles by year‑end. “We want to achieve what we set for last year and surpass the 50,000 threshold” he said. The target was originally earmarked by senior BYD executive Stella Li for 2025, and the figure has now been pushed forward.

Last year, BYD achieved 23,306 new registrations in Germany according to data from the German Motor Vehicle Registration Office.
Success has come largely from plug‑in hybrids, and Bialkowski plans to continue this trend. He told Handelsblatt that BYD expects to secure a market share of more than five percent for plug‑in hybrids by 2026, while aiming for roughly four percent share in the pure‑electric category.
