German officials express hope for renewed momentum in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process following a high-level conference convened by France and Saudi Arabia in New York. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Florian Hahn (CSU) stated on Monday, ahead of his departure, that the conference aims to reinvigorate efforts toward a two-state solution, which he described as the internationally agreed upon framework for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
Hahn emphasized that a two-state solution remains the only viable path towards enabling both Palestinians and Israelis to live in peace, security and dignity. He confirmed his participation in the Monday and Tuesday event, stressing Germany’s intention to inject fresh impetus into the process.
The State Minister will use the conference as an opportunity to highlight Germany’s approach and specific contributions toward achieving the two-state solution, underscoring the nation’s commitment to Israeli security. He noted the necessity of developing a new security architecture in Gaza, alongside detailed “day-after” scenarios for the region.
Furthermore, Hahn stressed the prerequisite conditions necessary for progress: the release of all hostages, the laying down of weapons and the relinquishment of future claims to power by Hamas.
