The Christian Democratic Employees’ Union (CDA) is calling for an increase in the per‑kilometre travel allowance. “My proposal: relieve employees by raising the kilometre allowance for business trips in private cars to 38 cents” said CDA chief Dennis Radtke to the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition). He also wants a tax‑free mobility allowance that is targeted, unbureaucratic and practical. Radtke rejects car‑free Sundays as a fuel‑saving measure. “Car‑free Sundays miss the core problem for commuters” he said. He believes the state should demonstrate decisive action rather than offer saving tips. “Given the geopolitical situation, fuel prices will inevitably rise” Radtke added. “That means we must apply the new cartel law strictly and provide targeted relief”.
