CDU Calls for Reduced Health Services for Unemployment Beneficiaries to Cut Costs

CDU budget committee member Yannick Bury has advocated for restricting healthcare access for recipients of Bürgergeld (Citizen’s Income Support), particularly for those who were not employed before receiving the benefits. Speaking to “Focus” Bury argued that the coalition must prioritize cost reduction measures. He suggested modeling the current system after the previous social assistance period.

According to Bury, there were de facto differences in healthcare provision during the previous system. He noted that recipients who were previously active in the workforce often had far more comprehensive access to healthcare compared to others, who faced various restrictions. The CDU politician urged that this approach-implementing tiered access resulting in lower expenditure-should be a subject of discussion.

Bury strongly criticized the notion that basic income benefits should be funded by insured individuals, stating this was incorrect and unsustainable. However, he cautioned that the solution cannot simply consist of shifting costs from one department or entity to another.
