CDU Expert Signals Talks With States Over Promised Income Tax Reform

The financial policy spokesperson for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Fritz Güntzler, has announced that he will initiate discussions with the federal states regarding the planned income tax reform. Güntzler told the news portal T-Online, “Of course, we will meet with the states on this matter”. He emphasized that tax policy within the federal system should be handled through dialogue rather than by mere pronouncements, suggesting that such conversations would be best held over a cup of coffee and with a sharp pencil.

Meanwhile, Güntzler stressed the necessity of the reform, reminding the states of their responsibilities. “The income tax reform is coming-because we promised it to the citizens” he stated. According to him, having more net income from gross wages is currently not just a campaign promise, but an economic necessity.

Güntzler also mentioned that the states were present at the table when the CDU federal executive committee approved the black-red coalition agreement, which included the income tax reform. Because of this, he expressed confidence that they will reach a common solution, arguing that their ultimate shared interest is getting Germany back on a growth trajectory.
