CDU Lawmaker Calls It Insufficient

The German parliamentary committee for defense, led by Thomas Röwekamp (CDU), has voiced concerns regarding the ongoing airlift operation by the Bundeswehr to the Gaza Strip, describing it as an inadequate tool for delivering humanitarian aid. Röwekamp, speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, emphasized that an airlift is “certainly not a lasting solution” to the humanitarian crisis in the conflict zone.

He stressed that a sustainable improvement in the humanitarian situation in Gaza requires “a reliable and unimpeded delivery of goods by land”. Röwekamp called upon the Israeli government to facilitate such land-based transports, ensuring their passage and distribution without obstruction.

Simultaneously, he acknowledged the necessity of cooperation from all parties, stating that Hamas must also allow for the distribution of aid and refrain from any interference in or influence over these humanitarian efforts.

While recognizing that Germany’s current airlift demonstrates a commitment to providing assistance, Röwekamp also pointed out that it serves to increase pressure on the Israeli government to actively prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
