Five months ahead of the state election in Rhineland-Palatinate, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) holds a significant lead in voter preference over the incumbent Social Democratic Party (SPD), according to a recent survey conducted by the Institute for Opinion Research (Insa) and reported by “Bild”.
The survey, if replicated on the coming Sunday, projects the CDU as the leading party with 27% of the projected vote. This figure represents a slight decrease of one percentage point compared to a survey conducted at the end of March. The SPD, meanwhile, currently registers at 22% and would likely be forced to relinquish its position in the state chancellery.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) is positioned as the second-strongest party, registering a gain of four percentage points compared to six months prior, currently achieving 23% in the survey. The Green Party, currently part of the governing coalition, remains consistently positioned with nine percent. The Free Democratic Party (FDP), also part of the governing coalition, is projected to fall below the five percent threshold required for representation in the state parliament.
