Transportation politician Christoph Ploß (CDU) sharply criticized Verdi’s warning strikes on public transport that take place on Bundesliga match days. “It’s unacceptable to leave hundreds of thousands of football fans stranded on a match day” he told the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday edition). “There should be no strikes on buses and trains during Bundesliga weekends”.
Ploß said football brings people from different walks of life together and that unions should not use the fans’ enthusiasm to push their demands. He added that the ongoing strikes not only irritate residents massively but also increasingly strain the German economy.
