Given the continued rise in fuel prices, Sepp Müller, Deputy Chairman of the CDU party faction, stated that new measures to provide relief are not ruled out. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Müller noted that “if price pressure persists, we should re-evaluate which instruments are suitable.” He added, however, that it is crucial not to respond to every short-term market fluctuation with hasty measures that ultimately prove ineffective. Müller also confirmed that he is in discussions with the coalition partner and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs regarding appropriate solutions, having previously chaired the government coalition’s “Gasoline Price Taskforce.” Furthermore, the economic expert expressed deep concern over the attacks on energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia by the Houthi group. Regarding the impact of these attacks, Müller concluded that it is currently impossible to reliably predict the sustained effect these actions will have on oil and, consequently, on fuel prices in Germany.
