Following a debate sparked by SPD parliamentary group leader Matthias Miersch regarding potential new national debts linked to the Iran conflict, the Union party has once again issued a warning against such a move. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” (Tuesday) at the edge of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group meeting in Berlin, CDU parliamentary director Steffen Bilger stated that taking on more debt would be a bad sign, arguing that it would make the political approach seem unprepared during these difficult times. Bilger emphasized that the coalition is about to incur a level of debt not seen in many years. He added that accumulating more debt will not solve fundamental problems, but will instead complicate future financial management. According to the CDU politician, the focus should instead be on stimulating the economy, implementing necessary reforms, and achieving budgetary savings.
