After the first projections for the Baden‑Württemberg state election, CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann has not yet accepted his party’s defeat. Speaking on ARD, he said the final results are still pending and added that the ZDF model only shows a one‑percentage‑point difference.
Meanwhile, the Greens celebrated loudly, leading both the ARD and ZDF forecasts. Former Greens leader Ricarda Lang told ARD she was “overwhelmed” and offered the Union the possibility of forming a centre‑right coalition.
For the SPD, whose entry into the state parliament is still uncertain, General Secretary Tim Klüssendorf described the outcome as “very bitter”. He said the party recently felt the full force of the electoral shift and is now “completely knocked down” and indicated that he would now turn his attention to the Rhineland‑Palatinate election scheduled in two weeks.
