At the Munich Security Conference, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the international community to strengthen the United Nations and promote multilateralism. He said that the world stands at a crossroads and humanity must confront the challenge of securing future peace and positive development. Wang highlighted China’s proposal for a global initiative aimed at building a fairer international system and described the UN-as imperfect as it is-as the best instrument for fostering peace and cooperation. He warned that without the UN the world could return to a “law of the stronger” system, and stressed that international collaboration is essential for restoring trust and solving global problems.
Wang contrasted his views with those of U.S. Ambassador Marco Rubio, who had recently criticized the UN for playing no role in conflict resolution and called for a reform-not abolition-of international organisations. While Rubio focused on restructuring, Wang emphasized the enduring partnership between China and Europe and the need to work together toward a multipolar, peaceful world. He cautioned against further division of the globe and urged all nations to cooperate in shaping a positive future.
