Chocolates Surge 17..8% Higher Than 2024

Some classic Valentine’s Day gifts have risen more sharply for consumers over the past year. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), chocolate prices in 2025 were 17.8 % higher than in 2024, while cut‑flower prices were 5.3 % greater.

Those who prefer to dine out rather than give chocolates or flowers also faced higher costs: the prices for food and drinks in restaurants, cafés, bars and similar venues increased by 3.6 % compared with 2024. By contrast, overall consumer prices in the same period climbed 2.2 %.

In a medium‑term comparison, classic Valentine’s Day gifts have continued to outpace general inflation. In 2025, consumers paid 41.7 % more for chocolates than in 2020, cut‑flower prices were 38.2 % higher, and food and drink prices at restaurants, cafés, bars and similar venues rose 31.8 %. Over the same period, overall consumer prices increased by 21.9 %.
