The co-leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Tino Chrupalla, has asserted that actions occurring in the Gaza Strip constitute “crimes” referencing the humanitarian situation and reported casualties among civilians. Speaking in an interview with ZDF television, Chrupalla stated that the deprivation of essential supplies to civilians, the suffering of children and the killing of children in Gaza necessitate acknowledging that criminal acts are taking place and must be addressed.
Chrupalla further indicated support for halting certain arms deliveries to Israel, reiterating a longstanding party position against supplying weapons to conflict zones, a stance outlined in the AfD’s electoral program.
Despite these critical remarks, Chrupalla affirmed that Israel remains a “partner and friendly country” for the AfD, emphasizing that constructive criticism is necessary even when addressing allies who, in his view, are pursuing incorrect policies. He qualified this position by suggesting that disagreement on policy does not preclude the possibility of maintaining a friendly relationship.
