In July 2026, the price-adjusted order intake within the core construction industry fell by 9.2% when compared to June 2026, after factoring out calendar and seasonal variations. According to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday, order intake decreased by 8.4% in building construction and by 10.0% in civil engineering.
Looking at a less volatile three-month comparison (May to July 2026), the calendar and seasonally adjusted order intake rose by 2.7% over the preceding three months; though building construction saw a decrease of 2.7%, civil engineering achieved a growth of 7.6%.
In comparison to July 2025, the real, calendar-adjusted order intake in construction was down 1.9% in July 2026. Specifically, order intake fell by 1.5% in building construction and by 2.2% in civil engineering. Conversely, the nominal (non-price-adjusted) order intake increased by 2.7% compared to the previous year.
Regarding financial performance, real turnover in the core construction industry saw a 4.6% increase in July 2026 compared to the same month last year. Nominal revenue rose by 9.4% during the same period, reaching €12.1 billion.
Furthermore, the number of individuals employed in the core construction sector rose by 1.5% in July 2026, reaching approximately 545,000 people compared to the previous year. All employment figures refer to enterprises employing 20 or more staff, the statisticians noted.
