Court Rules AfD Member Gerrit Huy Remains Banned from Non-Partisan Parliamentary Group DPG

Gerrit Huy, an AfD member of the German Bundestag, remains excluded from the German Parliamentary Society (DPG). This status follows a ruling announced by the Berlin District Court on Friday, as our editorial staff learned exclusively. The court intends to release its justification for the decision on Monday.

Huy was first excluded in 2024 following her participation in the controversial Potsdam meeting, where she and other AfD and CDU members were allegedly part of discussions with far-right extremist Martin Sellner concerning “remigration.” The DPG’s board of directors had previously unanimously decided that this participation had “grossly” damaged the reputation and interests of the organization. Huy challenged this decision legally, but even after her lawsuit was dismissed, she still has one month to appeal the ruling to the next level.

During the oral proceedings at the District Court in September, Huy revisited the Potsdam meeting, stating that it was completely incomprehensible to her how the media scandal had developed in early 2024. She maintained that nothing at the November 2023 meeting in Potsdam struck her as objectionable. Furthermore, she claimed that she practically forgot about the event early on and that the reporting by Correctiv was largely inaccurate.

The German Parliamentary Society is an ostensibly non-partisan association comprising representatives from the German Bundestag, various state parliaments (Landtage), and the European Parliament. It is headquartered in the former Reichstag President’s Palace, located directly across from the Reichstag building. The organization receives approximately three million euros annually from the federal budget.
