CSU Criticizes CDU’s Proposal of a Social‑Media Ban for Children and Teens

The CSU strongly criticized the CDU‑sister party’s call for a ban on social‑media use by children and adolescents.
In the Tuesday edition of the “Tagesspiegel”, General Secretary Martin Huber said, “Symbolic politics doesn’t help”. He added that while the party shares many parents’ concerns, it remains skeptical about implementing a blanket ban. Huber also warned that it is uncertain whether such a prohibition would actually achieve the desired outcome, stressing the need for caution on the issue.

Although the smallest coalition partner in Berlin does not wish to halt the initiative that has the backing of the CDU and SPD, it is not prepared to block it entirely. Huber indicated that, once concrete proposals surface-potentially in the form of a draft law-the coalition will carefully review them. “We will thoroughly assess the proposals in a calm, measured way” he said.
