CSU Demands Sweeping Tax Overhaul by 2029 to Boost Incentives and Income

Amidst ongoing debates about tax cuts, Florian Dorn, a member of the CSU Bundestag and a fiscal policy expert, is demanding a comprehensive tax reform to be implemented by 2029. Speaking to Bild, Dorn asserted that policies must be designed so that working more and earning more is genuinely worthwhile, and that these benefits must apply across all income levels, from low earners to high earners.

According to Dorn, the tax structure should be reformed before 2029 to provide “real relief and tangible incentives for working additional hours.” He stressed that when earning additional income-whether through overtime, raises, or moving from part-time to full-time employment-people must keep “noticeably more net income.” He added that such measures would subsequently benefit both the economy and state revenues.

In the interim, Dorn told Bild that Parliament must prioritize immediate action to completely eliminate “cold progression” and safeguard the purchasing power of employees, even when factoring in social contributions.
