The CSU, which co‑ruling at the federal level, has given a decisive rejection to the SPD’s plan to abolish the marriage‑tax split. General Secretary Martin Huber told the newspapers of the Bayern media group that they are firmly against any attempt to end the split. “Couples who earn different amounts should not be tax disadvantaged” he said. “Abolishing the split would raise taxes for married couples and constitute a massive interference in their life trajectories. We decisively reject this”.
Huber added that the slogan should instead be “lower taxes instead of higher ones”. “We want to relieve families, not burden them” he concluded.
