Defense Commissioner Urges Rapid Bureaucracy Cuts to Free German Troops and Speed Procurement and Field Decision-Making.

The Military Ombudsman of the German Bundestag, Henning Otte of the CDU, makes clear in his new annual report that the armed forces should be relieved from “military‑related bureaucracy”. He says the first priority is to speed up procurement. “We need a faster procurement process” he told the dts news agency on Tuesday. Otte also points out that military kitchens require quicker approval procedures and that, especially in operational tactics, more decisions should be made on the ground. He stresses that this should form a guiding principle. Otte welcomes the fact that the leadership culture is now being taught to reduce bureaucracy and praises the minister for commissioning an examination of how the ministry can free itself from bureaucratic constraints in order to liberate the troops.
