Deutsche Bahn March Punctuality Climbs Above 60 Percent, Trends Show Improving Reliability

Deutsche Bahn’s (DB) punctuality in long-distance transport surpassed the 60 percent threshold again in March. Data from the state-owned company, reported by the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Wednesday edition), indicates that on that month’s ICE and IC services, 62.1 percent arrived at their destination on time.

However, there were still several days in March when only slightly more than half of all long-distance trains met the schedule. For an ICE or IC to be considered on time, it must have a delay of less than six minutes. Nevertheless, overall punctuality in March stabilized at a significantly higher level compared to previous months, when operational difficulties caused by snow, ice, and cold sometimes brought services to a temporary standstill in certain regions. On three specific days, Deutsche Bahn recorded punctuality rates exceeding 70 percent.

The beginning of April showed an even improvement; punctuality, which was below 60 percent immediately before the Easter weekend, rose to 73.7 percent on Good Friday. By Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, over 75 percent of all long-distance trains arrived on time, and on Easter Monday, the rate was close to 70 percent.
