Deutsche Bahn Sets Up Body‑Cam Program for Employees After Fatal Train Attacker Incident

After the fatal attack on a train conductor in early February, Deutsche Bahn plans a range of measures to increase the safety of its staff.

Chief executive Evelyn Palla announced that, by 2026, all customer‑contact employees-whether in regional or long‑distance services and at stations-will receive body‑cam equipment. She added that the company will continue to explore, with the relevant authorities, how to enable audio recordings alongside the video footage, as this would be crucial for both investigation and prevention.

Palla also intends to recruit 200 additional security officers and will review whether their protective gear can be improved. A mandatory panic button will be introduced for employees who work directly with passengers.

In addition, from 1 March DB Regio will lift the compulsory identity check that is normally part of ticket inspections. “We know that the ID check carries a high escalation risk” Palla said. Going forward, the decision to perform an ID check will be left to the inspecting staff member’s discretion.
