North Rhine-Westphalia’s Transport Minister Oliver Krischer (Greens) has voiced concerns regarding proposals from Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) to link the price development of the Deutschlandticket to the inflation rate. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Saturday, Krischer stated that such measures alone would not resolve the underlying issues.
“Without commitment from the federal government, we cannot escape the state of perpetual provisional arrangements” Krischer told the newspaper. While acknowledging the general consensus on the mid-term linking of the Deutschlandticket price to a price index, he emphasized that this was not the core issue.
Krischer stressed the need for a long-term solution regarding the ticket’s financing, alongside addressing administration and marketing aspects. He expressed hope in the process agreed upon at the Transport Ministers’ Conference, which involves collaboration between the federal government and the states.
