FC Augsburg advanced to the second round of the DFB-Pokal with a 2-0 victory over Halleschen FC. The Bundesliga side overcame a determined effort from their Regionalliga opponents, though not without a challenge.
Steve Mounié opened the scoring for Augsburg, converting a cross from Wolf with a header. Samuel Essende then secured the win in the second half, capitalizing on a turnover deep in the Halleschen half. A driving run from Saad set up Essende, who finished from eleven meters to extend Augsburg’s lead.
Despite the three-division gap between the teams, Halleschen created several scoring opportunities throughout the match, but were ultimately unable to find the back of the net. Augsburg, meanwhile, found it difficult to assert complete dominance for much of the game.
Elsewhere in the first round, Holstein Kiel defeated FC 08 Homburg 1-0, with goals from John Tolkin and Alexander Bernhardsson sealing the win. SV 07 Elversberg also progressed with a narrow 1-0 victory over SSV Ulm 1846, courtesy of a decisive goal from Felix Keidel. Both matches proved closely contested, but ultimately saw the higher-ranked teams prevail, with Elversberg demonstrating increasing control as the game against Ulm progressed.
