DGB Calls for Flexible Home‑Office to Slash Fuel Bills as Prices Soar

Given the high cost of fuel, the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB) has urged companies to allow greater flexibility in home‑office arrangements.

“Every drop of fuel that’s saved makes a difference. Employers also have to do their part” said DGB board member Stefan Körzell in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” Thursday edition. “They should give employees the choice to work either in the office or from home. That can cut commuting distances and spare employees’s wallets”.

Körzell also noted that not all workers can work from home. “If the crisis persists, we need to talk about additional relief for employees” he said, suggesting a mobility allowance or a basic energy‑price flat rate. “A profit tax must prevent large corporations from turning a profit during the crisis”.
