DGB Chairwoman Yasmin Fahimi has joined economists in criticizing the proposed use of the special fund allocated for infrastructure development and climate neutrality. Prior criticisms had targeted Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD), who was accused by economists of using the funds merely as a temporary stopgap to plug existing budgetary gaps, rather than facilitating true new investments.
Now, Germany’s top union leader has expressed similar reservations. Speaking to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, Fahimi stated that it does not appear certain that the full 500 billion euros will actually be channeled entirely into additional investments. She concluded by expressing, “We are disappointed”. This criticism is notable because the DGB had initially heralded the special fund as a breakthrough measure designed to finally resolve Germany’s long-standing investment bottleneck.
