In light of the worsening situation in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has called for the repatriation of refugees to Morocco and announced a further extension of border controls at German state lines.
Speaking to “Bild” (Saturday edition), Dobrindt stated, “Spain must immediately ensure that European external border protection is guaranteed and that illegal migrants are promptly returned to Morocco. The situation in Ceuta clearly illustrates the volatile state of illegal migration.”
The Minister added that he intends to maintain and expand the “successes in curbing illegal migration.” For this reason, he plans to extend the controls maintained along Germany’s state borders. “Flexible and adapted internal border controls must continue,” Dobrindt said, “and we will extend the possibility of these internal border controls beyond September.”
