Dobrindt Shocks CDU East Warns of AfD Alliance

Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has cautioned his party colleagues in eastern Germany against potential cooperation with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. In an interview with “Focus” Dobrindt stated, “I can only warn against following such considerations. The AfD is a party that must be fought, not one with which one can cozy up.

Dobrindt reiterated his assessment that the greatest threat to Germany continues to originate from right-wing extremism. However, he emphasized the importance of not overlooking other significant dangers, including Islamism and left-wing extremism.

The Interior Minister also voiced concerns about the increasing radicalization of young people. He noted that a segment of youth today demonstrates a willingness to be drawn to extreme ideologies, presenting a considerable societal challenge.

Dobrindt added that it was concerning to observe young people increasingly defining themselves through demarcation and antagonism towards specific groups. This often leads to feelings of exclusion and disadvantage, fostering a perceived victimhood that can contribute to radicalization.
