Dobrindt Urges Germany to Guard Jewish Life, Fight Rising Imported Antisemitism on Holocaust‑Remembrance Day

On Holocaust Memorial Day, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) told the TV channel “Welt” that Germany takes the protection of Jewish life and institutions very seriously. He said this duty is a German responsibility that must be upheld, not only at home but also abroad.

“We’re constantly working to protect Jewish life” he said. “It’s not only our task in Germany but worldwide-we carry a great responsibility. On a day like today it’s important to be fully aware of that. That means safeguarding Jewish institutions wherever they are located and focusing specifically on the extremism that feeds antisemitism”.

Dobrindt emphasized that the threat comes from multiple sources. “Antisemitism in Germany has grown over recent years, partly because of imported hatred that has entered the country” he said. “We confront this imported antisemitism just as fiercely as the domestic forms coming from right‑wing or even left‑wing extremism. On a day like today it must be clear that fighting antisemitism is a collective societal task”.
