According to preliminary figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Monday, German accommodation providers recorded 33.6 million overnight stays in March 2026 for both domestic and international visitors. This represents a 3.1 percent increase compared to March 2025.
Looking at the monthly data, overnight stays from domestic guests rose by 3.8 percent year-over-year, reaching 28.3 million. Conversely, stays from international tourists saw a slight decrease of 0.4 percent, totaling 5.2 million.
Focusing on the period from January to March 2026, the total number of overnight stays reached 86.7 million. This figure marks a 2.5 percent increase compared to the corresponding period the previous year. However, it falls 2.3 percent short of the record 88.7 million stays achieved in the first quarter of 2024.
Overall, domestic guests greatly boosted the numbers, with stays in the first quarter of 2026 rising by 2.9 percent compared to the first quarter of 2025, accumulating 72.0 million nights. International visitors also contributed positively, with their overnight stays increasing by 0.8 percent to 14.6 million.
