In response to the launch of the “Blitzermarathon” campaign, the Federal Association of Driving Instructors (BVF) is advocating for the continuation of speed controls. Kurt Bartels, the BVF’s deputy chairman, stated to the “Rheinische Post” (Tuesday edition) that traffic safety requires measures like mandatory enforcement, just as good instruction is required for training. He emphasized that regular checks are particularly necessary in known accident hotspots and danger zones, such as near schools. According to Bartels, consistent monitoring at these locations helps raise public acceptance and encourages drivers to slow down. Furthermore, he noted that in accident-prone situations, a difference of just 10 kilometers per hour can be critical. This discussion follows the context of the European “Speedweek” which is an initiative organized by the “Roadpol” traffic police network.
