German parliamentarians have strongly condemned the recent incursions of Russian drones into Polish airspace, describing the events as a severe provocation.
Sara Nanni, the Green Party’s spokesperson for security policy in the Bundestag, characterized the incidents as an “unprecedented event” and called for a unified and decisive diplomatic response from all NATO and EU member states. She suggested that Russia is testing the alliance and gauging the reaction, particularly in light of the upcoming large-scale Russian military exercise in Belarus. Nanni emphasized the unacceptability of such actions.
Lea Reisner, spokesperson for international relations for the Left Party, expressed concerns about a “dangerous breach of international law” and demanded a thorough investigation into the occurrences. Reisner cautioned against triggering a downward spiral of escalation. She simultaneously called for Europe to reduce its reliance on U.S. President Donald Trump and to independently pursue diplomatic initiatives in collaboration with nations from the Global South, aiming for a ceasefire and negotiations.
