A Thyssenkrupp shipyard in Kiel, specializing in submarine construction, was recently overflown by drones, the company confirmed. A spokesperson for Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), the marine technology subsidiary of Thyssenkrupp, acknowledged the incident to the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, stating that the company is in close communication with authorities regarding the matter.
The origin of the drones remains unknown. According to TKMS, the overflight did not disrupt operations within the shipyard.
Addressing inquiries about potential drone defense measures at its facilities, the spokesperson indicated that Thyssenkrupp maintains a robust security protocol designed to protect its production processes, which includes continuous monitoring of its surroundings. The company expressed that while the incident was noted, they are not alarmed.
The incident in Kiel follows similar drone sightings reported at a clinic and a power plant in Schleswig-Holstein. The Flensburg public prosecutor’s office is now investigating these occurrences, with preliminary suspicion pointing towards a violation concerning the potentially dangerous act of unauthorized image capture. The coordinated nature of some of the drone flights has heightened concerns, prompting a full investigation into the involved actions.
