Dzienus Blasts Bürgergeld Reform as a “Vote of No Confidence” in the People

Green party politician Timon Dzienus slammed the planned conversion of the Bürgergeld into a new basic‑security scheme, calling it a “vote of no confidence against the people themselves”. He told the online portal T‑Online that the reform will make the country less just, not more. “The Bürgergeld was a safety net for all workers and the last lifeline for 1.8 million children living in poverty” he said. “Now Chancellor Friedrich Merz openly threatens sanctions and homelessness”.

Dzienus warned that no worker will take home an extra euro under the new basic‑security model. He added that the reform does not even save the state money; it would only work if more people were successfully placed in jobs. “Studies show that those who are sanctioned lose trust in job centres and suffer more mental illness. More sanctions actually reduce employment rates” he concluded.
