The Parliamentary Committee on Judicial Appointments has nominated legal expert Sigrid Emmenegger as a prospective judge for the Federal Constitutional Court.
The nomination, confirmed by multiple media outlets, occurred Monday evening and secured the necessary two-thirds majority required for approval. A formal vote by the Bundestag (German Parliament) is scheduled for Thursday.
This proposal follows a previous attempt prior to the summer recess, which ultimately proved unsuccessful. The earlier candidate, Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, withdrew her nomination following reservations expressed within the parliamentary group of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
Alongside Emmenegger, Ann-Katrin Kaufhold and Günter Spinner remain in contention for the vacant judicial positions. The upcoming Bundestag vote will determine the final appointments to the Federal Constitutional Court.
