Steffen Kampeter, CEO of the German Employers’ Associations (BDA), strongly rejected the federal government’s proposed tax-free premium of 1,000 euros for employees. Speaking to “Bild” (Wednesday edition), he stated, “The coalition promises relief but delivers burdens for companies”. Kampeter added that “this premium is facing rejection among many employers”. He argued that the economy has made no progress since 2019. “Costs are rising. Companies simply cannot afford this anymore”. Instead of adding extra costs, the opposite needs to happen. The BDA chief concluded by saying, “What is needed now is relief, not additional burdens regarding labor costs”. He added that hope remains that Federal Minister Warken will gain the necessary political support to ensure the health care reform is successful.
