The EU Commission is expected to take tougher action against Elon Musk’s AI chat‑bot Grok on Monday. “Handelsblatt” reports, citing three senior EU officials, that the Commission plans to launch a proceeding under the Digital Services Act, aiming to force Musk’s company xAI to withdraw Grok from the European market.
Grok has drawn global criticism because it can generate nudity and bikini footage of real people, including minors, without their consent. Over recent months users uploaded images and asked the bot to sexualize photographs of children. The chat‑bot complied, producing and distributing AI‑generated pictures and videos that violated privacy and child‑protection standards.
Originally the Commission intended to open the procedure last Monday, but it hesitated after President Donald Trump threatened to impose additional tariffs on several EU countries in his trade dispute over Greenland. Trump’s warning had been withdrawn. However, the Commission now appears set to proceed with the case against Grok.
