Federal investigators launched widespread searches across the country on Wednesday due to suspected corruption surrounding the UEFA European Championship 2024 in Germany. The public announcement was made by the Bochum Public Prosecutor’s Office and the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office. Reports also indicate that the headquarters of the German Football Association (DFB) in Frankfurt am Main was among the locations searched. The investigations reportedly concern unauthorized and improperly granted advantages, such as free visits to international football matches, allegedly received by a suspect who was working for one of the host cities and gave them to officials associated with the organizing company. Furthermore, it is alleged that the host cities were offered exclusive right-of-first-refusal options on entry tickets by officials of the organizing company, some of which the host cities utilized and used in various ways.
