According to reports, customs explosive detection dogs flagged a German vehicle twice. German ordnance experts are on their way to the border to verify the suspicion.
The vehicle owner is suspected of committing a crime, which is why the car is undergoing extensive scrutiny. The highway has been shut down in both directions, and traffic is being rerouted. It remains uncertain whether the vehicle actually contains explosives or a detonable bomb.
The closures affect the A861 in Germany and the A3 in Switzerland. Reports suggest that the closures are expected to last until early evening. Detours are leading to massive traffic problems and long backups, particularly on the Swiss Autobahn 3.
