Producer prices for agricultural goods saw a 10.9 percent decrease in February 2026 compared to February 2025. Looking at month-on-month changes, the rate was -10.1 percent in January and -8.3 percent in December 2025. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), producer prices for agricultural goods rose by 0.6 percent in February compared to January.
For plant products, prices fell by 11.6 percent in February 2026 compared to the previous year’s month. Prices for animals and animal products dropped by 10.3 percent year-over-year. When comparing February 2026 to the preceding month, plant product prices increased by 4.0 percent, while prices for animal and animal products decreased by 1.3 percent, indicating divergent trends for the two categories.
The 11.6 percent decline in plant product prices compared to the previous year is partly attributed to dropping prices for potatoes, which were 54.2 percent lower in February 2026 than in February 2025. In January 2026, the year-on-year change for potatoes was -49.8 percent, and in December 2025, it was -48.0 percent. However, compared to the previous month, potato prices saw a small rise of 0.2 percent in January 2026.
Producer prices for fruit were 26.0 percent lower in February 2026 than a year earlier. Red apples, for instance, experienced a significant price drop of 27.3 percent. In contrast, vegetable prices rose by 5.5 percent year-over-year, with mushrooms (up 3.9 percent) and lettuce (up 2.8 percent) being notably more expensive.
Grain was 17.9 percent cheaper in February 2026 compared to February 2025. Overall prices for horticultural crops were 2.7 percent lower in February 2026 than a year earlier. Rapeseed also saw a decrease of 4.9 percent year-over-year. Feed crops continued to fall, with a 12.7 percent decline compared to the previous year. Wine prices, however, showed another price increase in February 2026, rising by 1.4 percent compared to February 2025 (and also up 1.4 percent compared to January 2025).
The 10.3 percent fall in prices for animals and animal products from the previous year was influenced by falling milk prices. In February 2026, milk prices were 26.2 percent lower than the previous year, and they also fell by 3.6 percent compared to the previous month, January 2026. Egg prices, however, increased by 15.9 percent year-over-year.
For livestock, prices were 0.8 percent higher in February 2026 than in February 2025. This rise was largely due to a 17.1 percent increase in cattle prices. Conversely, pig prices dropped by 12.9 percent. Poultry prices were 5.6 percent higher in February 2026 than in February 2025, driven by significant price increases for other poultry (ducks and geese) of 11.4 percent. Chicken prices saw an increase of 1.9 percent.
