A fatal traffic collision occurred late Saturday night on Bundesstraße 9 between Schwegenheim and Römerberg in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. According to police reports, a 64-year-old woman from Oberderdingen was driving her vehicle in the opposite direction of traffic when she collided head-on with an oncoming car.
The incident, which took place around 11:40 PM, resulted in both vehicles catching fire. The 64-year-old driver, the 24-year-old driver of the other vehicle and a 21-year-old passenger in that car all died at the scene. A further occupant of the second vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries.
The B9 was fully closed for investigation purposes until 5:00 AM Sunday morning.
The Speyer Police Inspectorate and the Frankenthal Public Prosecutor’s Office have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
