Fatal Crash: Two Die in Central Hesse Unimog Accident

A serious traffic collision in Herborn-Burg has resulted in two fatalities and one severe injury, police in Central Hesse reported Friday. A 54-year-old Unimog driver and a 22-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. A 24-year-old driver in a BMW sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Thursday at the intersection of federal roads B255 and B277. Preliminary investigations suggest the Unimog veered to the right for reasons currently unknown, crossed a traffic island and collided with a waiting BMW and the motorcycle. The involved vehicles breached a guardrail and plunged down an embankment.

At the bottom of the slope, the Unimog further impacted a parked truck, slightly injuring its 69-year-old driver. The B277 was fully closed in the direction of Dillenburg until 4:00 PM. Emergency services, including police, paramedics, firefighters and municipal authorities, were involved in the recovery operation. A forensic expert was dispatched to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the collision.
