In the ongoing debate surrounding the proposed abolition of the unreduced pension after 45 contribution years, FDP chairman Wolfgang Kubicki is strongly advocating for the end of early retirement schemes. Speaking to Deutschlandfunk, he stated that early retirement without deductions was flawed even before its current implementation. “It is extremely costly and only affects a small number of individuals,” he said. “We used to assume it concerned people who had worked long hours on construction sites or performed heavy labor. In reality, we now know it includes many people in office jobs. Early retirement must be eliminated.” Furthermore, Kubicki rejected the idea of special solutions for Eastern German regions, a concept that had been raised by FDP candidate Lydia Hüskens in Saxony-Anhalt. He argued that “special solutions for specific regions are completely inconceivable” because they would only serve to complicate the pension system even further.
