Federal and State Governments Launch Platform to Drive Down High Construction Costs

Federal Minister of Construction Verena Hubertz (SPD) anticipates that building costs in Germany will decrease, partly due to a new platform negotiated between the federal government and the states. Hubertz told the “Rheinische Post” that she is confident this platform will lead to a significant step forward in lowering construction expenses. The bundes and the states agreed on Friday to use this joint platform as a means to drive down these costs.

“The federal government and the states share a common goal: we urgently need to lower these high construction costs, because building remains far too expensive,” Hubertz stated. The minister explained that there is no need to constantly reinvent the wheel, given that “many clever solutions already exist across the country.” The SPD politician added that the platform will centralize and consolidate these established state-level solutions, thereby facilitating knowledge transfer among various stakeholders. She noted that this initiative will benefit everyone involved in housing construction, including local governments, the construction, and the housing industry.
