Leipzig’s public prosecutor’s office has filed charges against a bus driver following a serious accident that occurred in March 2024 on the A9 highway near Schkeuditz. The announcement was made Tuesday by the prosecuting authority. The incident, involving a Flixbus coach, resulted in four fatalities and left 46 individuals injured.
Prosecutors allege that the 62-year-old Czech national lost control of the vehicle while traveling at approximately 94 km/h due to a lack of due care and attention. Investigations have ruled out any technical defects in the vehicle or impairment of the driver through alcohol or drugs. The bus, en route from Berlin to Zurich, left the roadway approximately three kilometers from the Schkeuditz interchange.
The indictment lists four counts of negligent homicide and 46 counts of negligent bodily harm. The Eilenburg District Court will now determine whether to proceed with a full trial.
