The opinion‑research institute Forsa has warned that political leaders are concentrating on the wrong issue. According to Peter Matuschek, managing director of Forsa, the public sees the economic situation as the main problem, yet many politicians still treat migration as the priority.
The observation comes after the “Deutschland‑Monitor 2025” survey, which showed that many voters expected the federal government to focus more on the economy. They feel that the Merz administration has not lived up to those expectations, eroding both satisfaction with and trust in the federal government.
Against the backdrop of rising poll figures for the AfD ahead of the state elections in eastern Germany, Matuschek urged democratic parties to keep holding the line against the right‑wing challenger. He added that politicians in Saxony‑Anhalt and Mecklenburg‑Western Pomerania must clearly demonstrate that they are addressing local concerns in order to rebuild confidence among voters.
