After Cem Özdemir’s victory in Baden-Württemberg, Manfred Güllner, head of the polling firm Forsa, says the Green Party will not see a new wing dispute between the “Realos” and the “Linken”.
“I don’t think there’s anything to hide – this is a state election that is hardly affected by federal politics” Güllner told the “Rheinische Post” on Tuesday.
“The Greens position themselves as left‑wing, but their electorate is composed of a very particular segment of highly educated and well‑paid voters. That mix is not comparable to the Left party. It’s therefore not about being left or centre‑right; it’s about bringing together suitable people across the country for pragmatic politics”.
When asked about Özdemir’s win, Güllner added:
“In 2011 people thought Kretschmann’s election was a fluke, but once we saw what he achieved, we were extremely pleased. Özdemir is following in his footsteps – what he will do now is yet to be seen”.
