The match, marking the fifth round of the season, saw Frankfurt dominate proceedings, establishing a significant lead before Gladbach mounted a late, ultimately unsuccessful, comeback.
The visitors took the initiative early, with a goal from Koch in the 11th minute, capitalizing on a poorly defended corner. Just four minutes later, Doan’s cross found Knauff, who fired a composed finish into the net. Gladbach struggled to gain a foothold in the match and Frankfurt quickly extended their advantage. Uzun’s clever assist allowed Burkardt to score a falling volley in the 35th minute, followed by a goal from Chaibi just minutes later after a simple pass from Doan. The first-half deluge continued as Uzun found the net in the first minute of added time with a powerful shot, leaving the Gladbach goalkeeper with no chance.
The second half mirrored the first, with Brown heading the ball to Koch who doubled his goal tally via a header in the 46th minute. While Frankfurt eased off the intensity, Castrop managed to put a goal back for Gladbach in the 72nd minute after a strong cross from Scally. A second consolation goal followed eight minutes later as Tabakovic, given too much space, headed powerfully into the net. The home side appeared invigorated by these goals and Tabakovic’s assist led to a goal from Engelhardt in the 83rd minute. Ranos then added another in the ninth minute of added time converting a Scally cross.
The result leaves Mönchengladbach at the bottom of the Bundesliga table without a win, while Frankfurt climbs to fourth place in the standings.
