Eintracht Frankfurt has secured the immediate transfer of goalkeeper Michael Zetterer from fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, the club announced Wednesday. The contract will run through 2029.
Sporting Director Markus Krösche stated that Zetterer brings a “strong goalkeeping ability alongside a high level of footballing skill”. He emphasized Zetterer’s demonstrated performance at Werder Bremen as evidence of his capabilities, adding that his ambition and mentality align well with the Frankfurt club’s values. “It was particularly important to us to begin the new season with a strong and balanced goalkeeping team and Michael is a very important component of that” Krösche said.
The move follows the previously announced departure of long-standing Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Zetterer developed through the youth system at SpVgg Unterhaching before joining Werder Bremen in January 2015. He went on to make a total of 80 competitive appearances for the club, having previously spent time on loan at Austria Klagenfurt and PEC Zwolle.
Over the past two seasons, Zetterer established himself as Werder Bremen’s first-choice goalkeeper, featuring in 65 competitive matches, including 18 clean sheets.
